"Just be yourself" Single page layout

Hi there Creatives!

I was honoured recently to be asked to create a scrapbook layout for Creative Hobbies, a South African craft magazine. The them of the issue was "Go Green" and this is what I created. I love this photgraph of my daugter Electra and have scrapped it before, but she is such a "green, no waste" person that it was the natural choice to scrap.

I used various mixed media products as well, I love the texture and dimension it adds to a layout.

To prepare the background for the layout trim the Prima Marketing: “Misty Rose: Scented Love Letter paper to 29cm x 29cm and distress all four sides. Adhere to the centre of the Bazzill's card-stock with double-sided tape.

I wanted to add more detail to the background so I covered the paper with clear gesso first. Then I added Mister Huey’s Mist to give more colour to the focus area. To transfer the text of the old book paper to the background, I painted the torn book paper pieces with soft matte gel and randomly placed with the gel facing down on the background. Once it was dry, I wet the piece of paper and rub the paper away, leaving only the transferred image of the text.

Next, I sprayed the Mister Huey’s Manila Mist on a craft sheet and dipped in there, I used the stencil to stamp on the background.  I also stamped with brown ink and a small text stamp.

To create more texture, I stencilled leaves with white embossing paste.

I also created leaves with Pale Gold Icing paste and a shallow mould, and left it to dry.

The die cuts were done with water colour paper and painted with Champagne Mist All Purpose Ink; the bird cage was painted with the Metallic Golden Glaze paint.

The focus point of the layout was created with layers of patterned paper and Sisal behind the photograph. The photo was also raised with cardboard. The die cut swirls, icing paste leaves and variety of paper flowers were arranged to form an attractive cluster around the photo.

To finish the layout off I adhered the raised sticker words, birdcage, butterfly, rhinestones and art stones and as a final touch I splattered with Champagne Mist All Purpose ink randomly over the layout.
