"Amazing" Single page layout

Hi there Creatives!

The Fairy Sparkle Collection from Little Birdie Crafts is just so cute! And I had the perfect photograph of my two nieces, Jennifer and Samantha to make a perfect layout.  The fussy cut pages that come the paper pack make embellishing the layout easy. You can create something special in no time.

I started with cutting the  paper to use on the background. I used a woodgrain paper from the Texture Brew collection and a Lavender sheet from the Fairy Sparkle collection. I also cut some pieces from the Watercolour Floral Ballet paper pack to layer with and some elements from the embellishment sheet.

I used a baby wipe to apply white Gessoto the background for a muted effect. And splattered with Black Currant Color Splash.

I wanted more texture on the background so I stencilled with Mixed Media Paste and the Stencil.

The chipboard title need to be more crisp, so I painted it with white Gesso and the chipboard wreath I painted with Glazed Berries Tinted Metallic Paint.

l created a layered effect behind the photograph that I matted on a piece of the brown woodgrain paper. I also raised the photograph with cardboard pieces from an old cereal box. I added little flowers and some foliage and spattered with white Gesso again. The wreath was cut in half and tucked in behind the paper and the title added . I also used one of the doily cutouts for more interest.

"Just be yourself" Single page layout

Hi there Creatives!

I was honoured recently to be asked to create a scrapbook layout for Creative Hobbies, a South African craft magazine. The them of the issue was "Go Green" and this is what I created. I love this photgraph of my daugter Electra and have scrapped it before, but she is such a "green, no waste" person that it was the natural choice to scrap.

I used various mixed media products as well, I love the texture and dimension it adds to a layout.

To prepare the background for the layout trim the Prima Marketing: “Misty Rose: Scented Love Letter paper to 29cm x 29cm and distress all four sides. Adhere to the centre of the Bazzill's card-stock with double-sided tape.

I wanted to add more detail to the background so I covered the paper with clear gesso first. Then I added Mister Huey’s Mist to give more colour to the focus area. To transfer the text of the old book paper to the background, I painted the torn book paper pieces with soft matte gel and randomly placed with the gel facing down on the background. Once it was dry, I wet the piece of paper and rub the paper away, leaving only the transferred image of the text.

Next, I sprayed the Mister Huey’s Manila Mist on a craft sheet and dipped in there, I used the stencil to stamp on the background.  I also stamped with brown ink and a small text stamp.

To create more texture, I stencilled leaves with white embossing paste.

I also created leaves with Pale Gold Icing paste and a shallow mould, and left it to dry.

The die cuts were done with water colour paper and painted with Champagne Mist All Purpose Ink; the bird cage was painted with the Metallic Golden Glaze paint.

The focus point of the layout was created with layers of patterned paper and Sisal behind the photograph. The photo was also raised with cardboard. The die cut swirls, icing paste leaves and variety of paper flowers were arranged to form an attractive cluster around the photo.

To finish the layout off I adhered the raised sticker words, birdcage, butterfly, rhinestones and art stones and as a final touch I splattered with Champagne Mist All Purpose ink randomly over the layout.

"Blessed"

Hi there Creatives!

I want to share a mixed media round canvas, my Little Birdie DT project for this week with you today.

I wanted a neutral background and love to use old book pages for that. The Little Birdie Soft Matt Gel is perfect to glue the torn book pieces to the wood canvas.

Once it was dry, I painted it with diluted White Gesso.

I added dimension by stencilling with the Little Birdie Slate Texture Paste and Blocks stencil.

To create a translucent watercolour  effect, I wet the central area and dropped a few drops of Black Currant Color Splash and Golden Glaze Tinted Metallic Paint in the water.

I found the grey  a bit harsh and to tone it down I added a little Cheesecloth. The Little Birdie chipboard title was coloured with Whipped Cream Sparkle Paste and chipboard wreath I finger-painted with Antique Gold Wax, also from Little Birdie.

I created a flower cluster with a selection of Little Birdie Flowers (my favourite).

And to finish off added some feathers and finger paint the edge of the canvas with the Antique Gold wax again. A quick little mixed media canvas, great fun!

Thank you for stopping by, I hope you found some inspiration here.

Happy creative play until next time!
